Student Spotlight: Aubrie Rounds, ’22, is an undergraduate student in the Professional Communication program

Where are you from? Why did you choose to attend FSU?

I was born in Cincinnati Ohio, but I grew up in Panama City, Florida. I chose to attend FSU Panama City because of the sense of community there is on campus. Each individual I have encountered during my time at FSU has been proud to be a Nole, which has just reinforced that I chose the right university.

What inspired you to choose your degree program?

I was inspired to choose the Professional Communication degree because I love the variety this program has to offer. I have considered myself a communicator since I was young, and this program has helped me refine those skills so that I am able to take them into a professional setting.

What has your experience been so far in the program?

My experience in the Professional Communication program has been amazing. I have not had a single class that I haven’t enjoyed, as each professor is knowledgeable in their area and strives to not only make their class interesting, but applicable to the real world. Its not only the classes that make this program great, however. My peers are some of the most driven, hardworking, and supportive people I know, and I am proud to be among them.

What aspect of your area of study do you find most fascinating?

Learning about marketing communications has 100% been the most interesting area of study for me. I took a class on producing digital media campaigns last semester, and it was fascinating to learn the ins and outs of using marketing communications to effectively convey messages to a target audience.

Who are the faculty or staff members that have helped or inspired you?

I truly appreciate each faculty and staff member that has been a part of my education. Dr. Sellers and Dr. Parker have both been incredible professors that have continued to prove that they care for their students and their success. Each professor I’ve had has continued to spark my interest in Professional Communication.

What do you like to do when you’re not doing school work?

When I am not doing school work, I am almost always spending time with my friends and family. From going on walks, trying local restaurants, or even hosting game nights, spending quality time with others is a priority in my life and probably the thing that brings me the most joy. I also am an avid reader and podcast listener, as I think it is important to continue educating yourself outside of the classroom.

After you graduate, what are your plans?

I plan to visit and apply to graduate schools during Fall 2022. In the meantime, I hope to continue with my internship as a social media manager for three local franchises!

What advice do you have for fellow students?

Enjoy. Every. Second. Many students, myself included, look forward to the day they no longer have to study, work on assignments, or take exams, but it will be over before you know it. Reflecting back on my time at FSU, it hasn’t seemed long enough. Cherish the highs, learn from the lows, and don’t waste a single moment yearning for the next phase of your life. Enjoy where you are now!
